And while Skitty's first battle against Dusclops was crap, the second one against Jynx was a planned victory. Assist does the same thing in the games, it takes one move from your pokemon in your party. May knew by using it she would eventually get Fire Spin which was super effective against Jynx being an ice type, so it made sense. Given Assists messed up beforehand getting her string shot and vine whip, it wasn't something that worked immediately.
