Take that Frontier that keeps being mentioned. Remember that cave with Smeargles beneath it? Imagine it's your introduction to the island. Before you enter any facility, you have to fight a Smeargle there. Except before you do, you have to run around between three NPCs spread throughout the island, having no idea which one is which only the general area in which they stay, listening to their dialogue. And when you get to fighting that fucking Smeargle, you can't use your own mons, only another Smeargle they gave you. It has good moveset, alright, but unless you use the exact move you are told to, it all restarts and you have to do this all over again. How many facilities would you stay to challenge in this setup?
