>>33713007Having a Bug typing is generally a nerf for a Pokémon, as far as offense and defense go, but unlike with Ice or Rock type, Bug types usually get something to compensate for the nerf. The upsides of being Bug type include early evolution and quick leveling curve for single player and STAB U-Turn, access to good set up and utility moves (Quiver Dance, Tail Glow, Sticky Web...), good abilities and frequently well-distributed stats competitively. Because Bug is actually utilized the way it is designed (as a bad type that gets compensated for in other areas) since at least Gen V, there are actually many useful Bug types today like Volcarona, Scolipede, Shuckle, the Bug UBs and the Bug Megas.
Ice and Rock on the other hand are not used like they are designed. They are overall nerf types that only really work well on fast, hard hitting Pokémon but are constantly treated like buff types and given to slow, bulky Pokémon. They are good on offense but bad on defense, which basically means they make for good super effective coverage, but are not great as a STAB type, where good neutral coverage is what you want.
Finally, Psychic is basically just a specially based Normal type these days. It's fine to have, but if you could choose any type you want you probably would go for something different.
