The idea is it was a slow snail in a heavy shell/helmet, then that was stolen and now it's adapted to become super fast since it's no longer protected.

I always saw Accelgor and Escavalier as not really being any specific animal, but rather creepy crawlies in general. So Accelgor could also be various soft-bodied terrestrial invertebrates like worms.

The people that allocate stats are not those who design the look of the Pokemon.
There is little to no oversight for stat/move balance when new Pokemon are made. Anything that is done in that regard is always an afterthought.

Blastoise has 80 speed, which is high-average, or was until a few gens ago.

Every other turtle mon has shit speed tho. Don't listen to the anon mentioning Torterra, 56 is low average speed in any given generation except maybe alola.
