It's really short and most of the available Pokemon are shit.

The Gen 1 and 2 Pokemon models are also recycled from Stadium, which means they look really shit next to the Gen 3 Pokemon.

And every battle being a double battle + no way to turn off animations means it's slow.

It's fun as fuck, easily one of my favorites in the series. Just blows that there's such a limited scope of pokemon and the game is relatively short. XD fixed both of these things but isn't as good story/design wise.

Is quite dialogue heavy for its era, and not that great. Also, no routes, only fast travels between zones, which killed the world for me.

Still an interesting take in the Pokémon series, that is relatively dark without being edgy, which is hard to do if you have no experience. Overall kind of decent. Having only double battles made it pretty fun to me

If you miss snagging certain Pokemon, like Remoraid, the only way to get another chance is to trek all the way through the damn building and cave, rebattling like 15 trainers along the way. And if you want to go back and heal? Too fucking bad.

100%'d this for the first time a few months ago. Man this game is hot garbage. The sequel was way better, but it still doesn't beat the streamlined experience of a mainline game. Still, I appreciate it for daring to try something different at least.

Gets you some easy Pokemon for your gen 3 gba games that can't normally be obtained. Pretty good shit just for the treasure trove of Pokemon in it. Not to mention the infinite item glitch making catching Pokemon super easy once you get the master ball.

It's pretty fun, you can rematch trainers for an unlimited amount of times, racking in the dough while grinding. People say Mt. Battle is a good place to grind, but i find it faster to battle trainers you know you can beat much quicker with certain pokemon with the same exp.

You probably want to play Gale of Darkness instead, but Colosseum has it's own merits. Some parts are amazingly fun despite others being a little annoying or weird.

Good imo, Pros:
>good music
>uniquely good atmosphere/aesthetic
>limited dex is a turn off for a lot of people, but a big draw of the fun for others
>all doubles, which is ridiculously fun
>npc's use strats here and there(yfw skill swap slaking)
>I recall it having a decent length

Cons:
>GoD was better in most ways
>purifying pokemon kinda sucks
>dungeons are mostly hallways lined with trainers
>kinda linear, not as bad as SM though

Just play it, OP, at worst you'll probably think it's decent

If you don't mind 100% double battles, shitmons galore, a very limited selection of Pokemon, and a game that treats you like you have a 3 digit IQ, you may like Colosseum.
It's sequel does most things better so you're honestly better off playing that.

Since he sends out everything but Tyranitar in a completely random order, he opened with Scizor and Machamp for me. The two of them Earthquaked each other to near death in order to kill my Ampharos and Jumpluff, for some reason. They must have really wanted Ampharos dead.

it was the only game that gave you johtomon and their starters without the need to remake a past-gen game.

their main annoying gimmick is the shadow pokemon. the only wildmons you steal from trainers that dont level up til after theyre cured from being used in battle several times.

the wildmons are limited, but its a good opportunity to try them out since its always double battles. and a lot of multi-target moves didnt hurt your own yet, except for earthquake and explosion. also had good bros from Granbull, Jumpluff, Raticate and Noctowl

Why would you voluntarily get ripped off?

It's a good game. I like it better than XD due to Shadow Pokemon in opponent's team not getting walled by your own Shadow Pokemon, so it's harder.

Also some bosses are somewhat challenging if you don't train in the Mt Battle, though AI fucks up with items and you might learn how to abuse them, baiting attacks with disposable pokemon such as Plusle.

I could go on and on about Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. They're both great games and anyone who can still enjoy Pokemon without the physical/special split should play them.

Since every battle is a double battle and there are 3D animations the battle will be slow but the great soundtrack really takes my mind off of that and I've always enjoyed playing it.

But since Gen. 2. is the age of Shitmons there's a lot of shitty Pokemon in this game.

Colosseum is definitely not a great game but its unique enough it be worth playing.
Also, people tend to praise this game battle music but I don't like it. One important battle theme sounds like a fucking circus music.

- All double battles make it uniquely different from any other game in the series.

- Most shadow Pokemon are kinda average, so you have to make do with what you have. You can still make a decent team with what's there. Missing a mon means you can't try again until post-game.

- Locations are interesting even though no travel between places.

- Good atmosphere and story for a Pokemon game.

- Music is fun IMO

- Linear game

- Purification is a tortuous mechanic

It's got some flaws but it's pretty unique in it's own right. GoD fixes some of the problems of Colosseum (PURIFICATION/less shitmons) but also has a worse story and the final dungeon is terribad.
