For me, the plot was fun up until the Poni Canyon part, and then it basically went flat from there. Not sure why but it just felt anticlimatic

I would have made lillie a trainer at least, she could have wielded evolved Nebby

i'd make UBs an actual threat that we have to help stop before going to "rescue" lusamine and i would let us be able to interact with her in the aftermath, hear her motivations, reasons..literally anything more than what we actually got...

I would have it so Team Skull and Guzma weren't truly Aether's puppets. Finding that they were both connected this way somehow made both less interesting. Team Skull as a threat would have felt more realistic if it were entirely its own thing, just a gang of troublemakers who want nothing more than to get in your way and cause funny trouble.

Why did they even bother showing all the wormholes entering alola, and the tease of the 2 cameos? It makes me feel like they were going to go this route but scrapped it due to time or something.

I would have gotten rid of it. The games are better off without a narrative like that, and the premise sucks so much that trying to salvage it wouldn't do much good anyway.

it's entirely possible that happened to be honest. They showed that only to "imply" that UBs invaded alola and every kahuna+tapu went out there to fight the UB that descended on the respective island. It would have been way cooler if we had a part in that invasion and saw some actual damage happening...imean even XY showed a few knocked down houses and BW2 covered an entire city in ice so...

Make the UB invasion part of the main plot and have a small army of elite trainers gather to help mitigate the damage. Handy excuse to give Red and Blue UB's in the tree. However Red and Blue should really just be present at the meetings, not have the game start jerking them off.

Make Lusamine more responsible for her own actions, don't end with Lillie dedicating her life to "curing" Lusamine and instead put more emphasis on her finally going her own path.

Mostly because that one is more focused on making Lillie into a better character. Another idea if you want even less Lillie involvement but more UBs:

I always theorise that the Pokedex entries foreshadowed what was originally going to be shown. Like accessing the power plant to witness Xurkitree, witnessing Kartana cutting that pointless tower in Malie Gardens, watching Buzzwole attack one of the many trucks you can find, etc

Honestly, more cutscenes post game in the ub episodes showing them actually attacking stuff and giving Annabelle a reason to actually be faint and sick, maybe showing her directing people one way and then a shot of an enormous ub, and then she runs with everyone and then you come in and fight the ub

Don't just say they're causing havoc, show them actually causing havoc

Give team skull more and longer appearances. Not just one boring battle against one or two members with one pokemon each after a long period of lame wandering through routes without any story elements... For me team skull felt nearly non-existent throughout most of the game.

Show the battle between UB 02 and Tapu Koko and the battles against the other ubs. Show us the battle between Type 0 and Nihilego.
After you have beaten lusamine make her escape to ultra space not because she wants to be alone with nihilego but make her reveal a big bad plan like gathering more ubs from there to bring them to alola and destroy the region. This would actually give you a reason to open the gate on pony island instead of some stupid boring family issues which imo felt not fitting what is supposed to be the climax of the game...
And instead of letting motherbeast lusamine power up her team let us fight the motherbeast itself. After we beat it make it recover and battle the main legendary where motherbeasts gets ultimately defeated.

And during postgame let the ubs appear in the overworld and cause visible damage. Let us meet some interpol officiers on the routes that try to stop people from entering them. Letting Anabel do all of the route safeness thing all by herself is rather unrealistic. expecially with 4 super fast Pheromosa/Kartana on a single route... Let Gladion and Silvally perform a watchable fight against one of the ubs.

That's the point, though. It was all mentioned in the post-game. If it was supposed to be an important part of her character and motivation, why mention it after the story ends? It's lazy.
