At the moment Game Freak are still relying on nostalgia and an established brand, but if they keep releasing substandard games, it will inevitably affect sales, and sooner or later it will have an impact.
The only reason Sun and Moon sold so well, was because of the graphical overhaul, and the return of old fans. It seemed fresh, new and exciting, but did the games really deliver? The sales of USUM will be telling.
That said, I do expect the switch game to sell well, because again, nostalgia and being the first console Pokemon game. But if it's substandard, how many will return for the next game, or the one after that? You can't keep disappointing fans forever.
