Cutscenes and scripted dialogue events aren't inherently bad. What is bad is how GF uses them at such a frequent rate now even though they can't write to save their lives. What makes it even worse is the fact that you can't skip them or speed through them like many other games allow to do you.

If they can't be skipped, they completely kill my motivation of ever replaying the games. I mean hell, it takes 35 minutes to access the Pokemon center in SM. I just wanna play a Nuzlocke without having to slog through the same story for hours, the Switch games can't come soon enough.

Easy, core gameplay and story should either co-exist, be one in the same, or not be intrusive.

The gameplay to story ratio in SM is notably the worst in the main series. Doesn't help that it's not even the protagonists story, but it's also a halfbaked plot as well.

I have the slightest hope they will give you an option to speed through the text honestly. I like long stories, but only when it's ny first time playing through it. The story needs to be very good if I ever want to experience a story again.

What's so puzzling about this is the fact that there's situations where the protag DOES emote, like on the bridge, or Nihilego coming out of its wormhole, yet when Lusamine falls off her rocker and shit goes down, the protag is just listening to the radio music stuck inside his head. It wouldn't be so bad if he was like :^) at the most inappropriate times if it wasn't so downright inconsistent.

I don't mind them as long as they're short or story/plot oriented. The only cutscene I can't stand is the ~10 minute one when you beat the Elite Four in SM. Shit doesn't end, basically continuous before and after the Tapu Koko battle

There are so many opportunities to give the player real choices too. Like, they could be given a certain berry (of a cool or cute flavor) based on if they said cool or cute. Making choices could lead to getting a certain pokemon with a hidden ability. Just so much wasted potential, when I know from experience that it takes zero effort to put these sort of choices in the game.
