Maybe the walking and running animation s weren't for following Pokemon but for Earthbound style encounters,I mean finding the Ubs in Sm postgame trough random encounters was pretty lackluster

And can we finally kill the idea that “ultra space” is a single place/universe rather than being a phrase more equivalent of “multiverse” or even the idea of the space between universes in a multiverse system?
Treating “ultra space” as a singular place all the UBs originate from has always annoyed me.

Especially given that Necromza and the Nebby lineage are all UBs too.

It looks like each place has its own gimmick too,
Xurkitree has one running around shooting lightning at the path you walk and Buzzwoles has a volcano erupting

Celesteela has paths blocked off by fallen rocks and acid pools

Kartana's look like they'll have battles with the Samurai Jack guys and Pheremosa has caves
