>>33739724>and why is it Ice?Well, let me give you some reasons.
>AvailabilityThis is honestly just sad. Ice is the only type that consistently suffers from the problem of being stuck at the later parts of the game. If you look at the "homes" of Ice-types in each generation (Seafoam Islands, Ice Path, Shoal Cave, Sinnoh Route 216/217, Twist Mountain, Frost Cavern, Mount Lanakila) they're all in the final quarter of the game, some of them being at the very end of the main story. A lot of people never use Ice-types in-game because by the time they encounter their first decent Ice-type they already have a full team. Ice is the ONLY type that suffers from this problem IN EVERY SINGLE MAINLINE GAME.
>QuantityIce is the least common type despite having been around since the very beginning because GF is very reluctant about making new Ice-type Mons. Even Fairy has more Pokemon even though Ice had a five-generation-lead. For comparison:
Ice: approx. 5.7 Pokemon / generation (40/7)
Fairy: approx. 25 Pokemon / generation (50/2)
>Stat spreadsIce is an excellent offensive typing but for whatever reason GF loves to make slow, defensive Ice-types with no reliable recovery. These Pokemon are all doomed to obscurity in competitive playing because they cannot utilize their type's strong points, making Weavile and Mamoswine pretty much the only two non-legendary Ice-types worth a damn (and even the legendaries tend to be shit. Just look at Regice or Kyurem/Kyurem-B).
>MovepoolsThis is a huge problem especially with pure Ice-types because they usually get fuck all for coverage and have to rely on Hidden Power to do anything meaningful. Kyurem-B is the worst cover legendary simply because it doesn't have any decent Ice STAB.
