I'm fucking glad Burst and Adhesive isn't fairy, maybe this might mean GF is slowing down their shilling of the fairy type. Maybe they might even NERF it in gen VIII, I can't wait for that to happen!

I love dark types but they've never been particularly strong. Tyranitar is the exception, but dark didn't need a nerf.

But yeah, Mr. Mime line and UB Burst is probably the closest thing we'll ever get to a clown/jester. You can argue Popplio line to have a bit of this, but I believe that line is more of a "performer" line that progresses along with time rather than specifically clown/jester.

You are forgetting about the Steel nerf, and the Sucker Punch nerf is peanuts compared to the Knock Off buff. Fairy if anything is the only thing preventing Dark from being the best type in the game, and it's already a top 5 type arguably.

I really don't think I agree with the top 5 bit but it's too early in the morning for me to compare and contrast with the 10 other types that are objectively neither best nor worst.

>It just looks whimsical and fitting of Gamefreak's notion of the Fairy type.

In defense of Ghost though, its frills and headlessness do feel rather Ghost type, but I almost wish it's colour palette was a bit more subdued. I still love it, but wish Gamefreak had taken the oppurtunity of a unique typing rather than another Fire/Ghost which it will certainly be competing or probably obsoleting the other two of this type who are attackers- this may be a fast frail mixed attacker, outdoing A-Marowak and Chandelure.

It's obviously based on a Dullahan. It's just that that kind of creature is already a ghost fairy, so GF had to pick one of the two.

I wish they did Fairy though, if only for the unique type combo and the idea that we need more weird traditional fey.

eh, not really. Its about as well defined but wide-ranging thematically as Psychic (actual psychics, cosmic/astral beings, stage magic, intelligence/wisdom/mysticism based mons) and that's been a type since the beginning.

Fairy types are usually one or more of: cute, mischievous/tricky (usually involving cuteness), based specifically on actual beings of Celtic folklore, majestic magical beings, kinds of 'spirits' but not in the dead sense like Ghost type, but more like nymphs.

On that fairly short but undeniably more verbose than most criteria, you can fit almost all fairy mons.

I would say nature falls under Fairy now, given Xerneas, Tapu, Florges, and Comfey. So it's more like a specific class of nature magic (like how Ghost is basically black magic now) and Psychic is more magic in general.

Looking back, I think Mr. Mime wasn't Fairy-type because it's a clown, rather because of it's doll-like attributes. After all, the first and only Fairy gym is based on a dollhouse. It's also vaguely elf-like, I guess.
