No because not all online services will need payment.
It's more for games with a hub system that need their own servers to mantain but if they manage to give us a online world battle frontier style that you can bet your sweet ass they want you to cash in.
But pokemon aint no scambags who take advantage of their customers autism so its cool. They never did dirty dlc only half assed products.

To use a metric tha we can compare between the two, SM’s worldwide first-year sales (for not quite a year yet) are far better than XY’s over its first year. Even if it never sells another copy, by any measure it’s a huge success.

SM sold really quickly because the pre-release hype was insane, plus Pokemon GO bringing Pokemon back to the mainstream in a huge way.
But it grinded to a halt because the game had no replayability at all, online functions were a mess, and the hype died before January.

XY and even fucking ORAS lasted a lot more, hence why they sold more despite starting a lot slower.

No, anon, I think you're mistaken there. They've been out longer, which is why they've sold more. In the span of a year, S/M's sales beat out both ORAS and XY's in the same length of time (a year after release). ORAS still hasn't sold as much as SM has in its entire life, but that's understandable as ORAS is a remake.

My mistake on ORAS, but it sold consistently for a lot longer.
SM sales have pretty much died though, they'll not reach XY, despite being much faster selling at the start.

fact of matter of is. x and y will outsell sun and moon lifetime. sales competely died out for. with pokemon go and 20th anniversary hype. it fizzled out

It's close enough that it doesn't matter, I can guarantee you no one at GF is freaking out over that gap. The games have been on a steady decline since Gen 1 with Gen 6 being the only exception. SM being so close to XY rather than more decidedly continuing with the declining trend is hardly a bad thing.

Assuming USUM has BW2-esque numbers Gen 7 will be in a fine position. Like Gens 6 and 7 Gen 8 will have tons of pre-release hype on account of being on brand-new, popular hardware.

There's no reason for it to sell any more since USUM is essentially an enhanced version of the same game. It's not a sequel like BW2, there's no reason to play it when an objectively superior game is available for about the same price. But it doesn't matter, no one at GF is sitting at their desk with a calculator waiting until SM's sales surpass XY's. It's gotten so close in so little time that it doesn't matter. They're not stupid, they realize releasing USUM will virtually put an end to SM's sales. If anything releasing USUM this soon after SM shows how pleased they are with its sales, they're in a position to essentially stop them entirely and they're fine with that.
