>>33752758>your whole argument is based upon the fact that pokemon "need" to have their stats efficiently placed to make full use of their stat points, which is just wrong.I don't think that all Pokémon should have balanced defenses. That's just you projecting your own autism. But it's not wrong that balanced defenses are better than unbalanced ones, if you are concerned about efficient stat distribution.
> Some pokemon have shitty inefficient stat placement because they're just shitty in-game goobers or rely on gimmicks.Sure, that exists sometimes, but look at stuff like Celesteela and Guzzlord. They are not supposed to be throwaway Pokémon. And they have a fixed base stat total of 570 as part of their design. Celesteela has balanced defenses and succeeds as a tank or wall. Guzzlord has high HP/low defs and doesn't. It's weird stat distribution directly contributes to it not fulfilling it's role as a tank very well, despite it's ability and moves implying that this is what it should be good at.
> Usually big pokemon have high HP. Pokemon with lots of armour and stuff will have high defense. Then to counterbalance that they will make the other hp/defensive stat worse. Some stat spreads are going to be inefficient this way and that's okay because not all pokemon are going to be good competitively. That, of course, disregards the Pokémon that probably should be powerful mechanically like legendaries. Besides, I think claiming that the stats should be used as a way to transport in game flavour is a seriously weak argument. Players primarily experience whether a Pokémon is bulky or not in battle, not at the stat screen. That makes the argument that Pokémon like Wailord, which has a huge HP stat but average effective bulk, is supposed to be a huge favour win, when a Thunderbolt knocks it out just as easily as it does a Basculin or whatever, not very convincing to me.
