Tyranitar effectively has 650 bst thanks to the sand boost, it's still barely OU

Rock is considered to be a terrible defensive type, as evidence by all the defensive rock types being horrible at their job.

The one thing rock does have over grass is that rock is a fantastic offensive typing, as such the rare few fast rock types tend to be fairly good

OP Here: perhaps I should have made it clear that I'm talking about weaknesses and not competitive scene.

Casuals who don't play meta also love Tyranitar so much and casuals hate Grass type as well.

Let's be honest here, Tyranitar isn't that relevant in OU anymore, so it should go down to BL or UU. If it's too centralising there, then push it back up.

The consensus is that Rock is the second-worst type after Ice. Offensive Rock-types are the only ones that work, and even those have it rough because Stone Edge is a terrible thing to have to rely on consistently.
Meanwhile Grass can and does work offensively, defensively, and as support. Five weaknesses doesn't mean as much when two of them are lolPoison and lolBug, and resisting Ground without also getting shitcanned by Rock is a real treat.

TTar survived gen7's release which arguably released more ways to fuck it than any other gen so far. I'm pretty sure it will be OU so long as he has the strongest Pursuit in the game and the equivalent of 159 base Spdef uninvested with sand. Unless the next gen releases stuff more horrifying than Zygarde-100, Pheromosa, Mimikyu, everyone using Buzzwole because of how popular he was, the Tapus and the return of Landorus Incarnate, Genesect and Smogonsword.

-weak to 2 types realistically because no one but Poison, Flying and Bug carries those type moves for STAB. Pairs nice with electric and flying among others.

-With Fairy existing dragons are pushed out which means ice coveage isn't needed that much

Because Grass' weaknesses are to common popular types, particularly Fire. Grass Pokemon are also usually hampered quite a bit by their weaknesses (see: Chikorita in Gen 2), whereas Tyranitar is an amazing Pokemon in spite of its weaknesses.

Your question, when phrases specifically around weaknesses and not surrounding context, would lead one to assume that pre-Fairy Spiritomb was the most popular Pokemon since it had no weaknesses. That obviously isn't true, so your logical reasoning is obviously flawed.
