This manga is very important in the sense that it's such an extraordinary product of its time, and the fact that it would never be made if anybody involved knew how things were going to go. Pokemon was Beatles level huge even then, but it was not yet intended to be a tentpole franchise for Nintendo, so there was still some play in how it could be handled. Because of this, we ended up with an entry to the franchise where everything looks a little weird, a bunch of shit regarding how the world works was made up, and sex between preteens is implied.
