Guzzlord wasn't too good for PU (for now), but it got enough usage in NU so it rose, that's it.

That's how tiers work. If a mon from low gets used enough in a tier, it rises to that tier, regardless of its viability on the low tier

You're over simplifying things. Lando can be put on any team and work because it can do fucking everything at least decently. Duggy had one role, so not every team needed it.

Furthermore, the rational for bans is more based on the tournament meta than it is on the ladder.

Arena trap was clearly broken though. Look at dugtrio, it was OU with it, and is about to drop below PU never to be seen again without it.

if one ability can single handedly bring dugtrio up 7 or 8 tiers, think about how broken it must be. Imagine if scizor, or garchomp, or god forbid Landorous got it? It would clearly break the meta game, which is why we had to ban it before it got out of hand.

Lando-t is the worst kind of centralizing mon. You have stuff like Kang or Mawile or the Primals in vgc16 that were so strong that turned the games in a sort of rock-paper-scissor flowchart routine because they could OHKO 70% of the dex comfortably and you had to play around them with support and dedicated counters and such. Those are bad but at least they will force you to think outside the box when it comes to teambuilding (vgc16 was the format of primals and dark void garbage BUT also the format where Jumpluff, Bronzong, Manectric and Raichu could shine). Lando-T is terrible because, while not being excesivelly overpowered offensively, it covers so much ground in terms of offensive coverage/support moves/bulk and immunities/switching and momentum that a good 40% of the dex is pointless for your team because Lando-T does everything other stuff could do but better and with some extra bonus. On top of that, it's easily one of the ugliest designs ever.

It is quite difficult to bring down if you don't have a reliable source of Fairy, Fighting, Dragon, Ice, or Bug. It has little trouble just chewing through 2-3 indiscriminate pokemon who don't have that kind of trouble, or is a good answer to choice mons.
It's low speed and nice movepool makes it good at running mixed as well, which just further's its objective of demanding a counter to it.
Guzzlord isn't hard to counter, but if you don't have that counter, it is very troublesome to deal with/

But anyway to all the people who don't understand pokemon competitive play usage doesn't mean broken high usage me and that pokemon is good yes but it's good in the sense that it can fit on every team and doesn't need much support. Certain pokemon are broken but require a specific team to reach that level of brokenness rather than saying the pokemon is broken alone you should say it's the combination of what it does and what it supports.

People love to remember it from their experience on the low ladder.
The high ladder and tournament meta was pretty homogenized. For example scizor, heatran, and ttar all had higher usage than lando-t ever did.
