I like sun/moon because it feels like an improvement from its predecessor gen, but I disliked a lot black/white because it was almost the same as gen 4 just adding some new camera angles and unnecesary moving sprites

I'm not really sure how to feel about Sun & Moon. I haven't done a complete playthrough because USM is basically going to be the same thing, but I really hated the cutscene frequency and closed off areas.

SunMoon has terrible replayability, USUM will basically replace it.

BW has the gimmick of being a kind of soft reboot of Pokemon, still feels good playing through the main story.

I usually judge games based on their peak acts, and reaching N’s Castle, seeing the Gym Leaders come to fight the Sages, then reviving Zekrom/Reshiram, battling them, and then teaming up with them to battle N, then Ghetsis, and watching N fly off to the distance was probably my favorite final act in Pokemon history

But climbing through the Vast Poni Canyon along with Lillie, reaching the Altar, evolving Solgaleo/Lunala, going to Ultra Space, battling Lusamine’s Mother Beast form, watching Lillie and Lusamine reunite, and then battling Nebby in the end was also incredibly hype

But I think out of all the games, going to Sky Pillar, battling Wallace in his Champion team, Climbing Sky Pillar, confronting Rayquaza, Mega Evolving it and completing wrecking Zinnia’s shit, to riding on it to space, destroying the meteor, and battling Deoxys in the finale was the hypest final act of any Pokémon game, to date

Both are fine, neither are my favorite. BW had obnoxious encounter rates and despite what everyone else seems to think I didn't like the story at all. N, Ghetsis, and Team Plasma were all thoroughly uninteresting to me.

Same goes for SM, the story was very basic and boring. Thankfully it looks like USUM is filling in the gaps with new and interesting story elements, it's a shame that SM had to essentially be a beta test.

Battle Subway was also better than Tree.
You could mash through the text in a BW replay, but you couldn't do that for SM's cutscenes.

I enjoyed both regardless, SM did a better job in getting you invested in (most of) the characters compared to BW, but BW's story was more consistent throughout and didn't devolve into waifubaiting.

I like both. Black and White had a better main game but Sun and Moon have a good competitive meta that's easy to get into. B/W was good but IV breeding sucked and you needed to level grind to 100 but there was no lv 50 option.

GameFreak does not do stories well. A few lines of dialogue from paper thin characters a good story does not make.

I do not like Gen 5 and I hate its fanboys.
It's a shame because some of my all time favorite pokemon are from that gen, fucking love Galvantula.

I really enjoyed BW, mainly because I like large pokedex's of new pokemon. While the region progression was fairly linear, it provided a wide variety of locations and dungeon areas as well as some post game. Pretty good imo

I was honestly pretty disappointed with SM given the slow/cutscene/guided tour pace and small new pokemon dex. While I appreciate GF trying to mix up the formula with trials and z-moves, they felt poorly implemented and unnecessary respectively. The size and variety of the region also felt underwhelming.

Maybe 3D was a mistake? Maybe SM were too kid oriented? Maybe I'm just getting bored of pokemon?

The only real flaws I can think of is it's linearity, how uninspired the northern part of Unova is (mainly due to the completely unused center), how often you'd get interrupted and how the Seven Sages bar Ghetsis didn't have that major of a role, same for those two attendees of N whose name I've forgotten.
Also not that big of a postgame but that's to be expected of first versions at this point, but even then, it was still good enough.
Then came SM and ramped most of these flaws I've listed up to 11 with even more handholding, to the point I'm still struggling to finish the game.
I sure hope USUM fixes Alola.

Gen V without a doubt. Had some of the best Pokémon designs I've ever seen. Gen VII is still really incredible though, probably only second to Gen V.

Eh. Pokemon was at a weird place when BW came out; after literally introducing GOD in Gen 4, Gen 5 was destined to be a heavily story driven game with serious themes. And it was, you got to be the Chosen One with the legendary dragon and the fight against N and the ethical pokemon slavery bullshit. It felt like a logical progression from Gen 4.

Now the series is selling well and has a hit phone app to boot, so you'd expect something experimental and new, but instead we just got gyms that aren't gyms but are still gyms and Pokemon that aren't Pokemon but are still Pokemon.

Black and White 1 were actually great games for the most part, pretty good region and a surprisingly decent story for Pokemon. It's one big issue is the weak/limited selection of Pokemon. Nowadays I only really replay it as something like a Randomizer Nuzlocke for this reason.

Sun and Moon weren't necessarily bad games. The story, again, was decent for Pokemon, although there were too many cutscenes. The Pokemon selection was alright, and Alolan forms are a cool idea, though in execution are unbelievably hit-or-miss. The main problem I had with S/M is just Alola itself, I absolutely hate sunny tropical vacation shit, and ESPECIALLY after I had to deal with a mediocre Hoenn remake. Gens 3 and 7 are my least favorite because of this.

Both of them also sucked for post-game, but they're both first-versions so it's not surprising.

BW did the whole story thing better while also not being as intrusive, even if it was still kind of bad at some points. Older Pokémon were completely absent in the main game and replaced with 150+ new ones making the game feel really fresh to me. I also like Unova as a region, it's linear but has a lot of optional areas, and felt fairly big. Alola was just as linear if not more while also being a lot smaller. I think there's still value in playing BW before BW2, whereas I am not getting that same vibe from Sun and Moon but there's no telling what will happen so I'll reserve judgement.

Overall I wouldn't say I hate SM, but it was very disappointing. It seems like its biggest features were pretty half-assed:
