It's USUM 287 points. Those 3 combined 295 points

No usum isn't gonna flop in Japan

I’m thinking a bit worse, but not insanely so. Third versions usually sell about a third to a half of their main games. I’m thinking less here, maybe a quarter, mostly because SM sales were “inflated” due to Pokémon GO’s popularity at the time. But a quarter of SM’s sales would still be pretty decent.

Well, a bit more, as I’d expect SM to go up a bit more. But yeah, around that. Like I said, I think SM sold more than it otherwise would have because of GO, and USM being released only a year after SM won’t help sales. I do think it’ll be among the worst-selling third versions (which is still quite good in absolute terms).

Well yeah, that’s exactly my point. If the question is USM sales as a percentage of SM, then there were a lot of people who otherwise wouldn’t have bought SM but for GO. So the usual ratio of third-version buyers will be skewed lower.

B/W sold 15.5 million and BW2 sold 7.5 million

d/p sold 17 million and did 6.8 million

hard to use percentage points to determaine how people will buy. Also usum introduced new pokemon for first time in 3rd versionsversions

Yeah, and none of those main games were sold in an environment where Pokémon was at its highest cultural consciousness since 1999. There’s no doubt, SM sales were inflated by this, but it’s not a factor now. I think that USM will sell proportional to what SM would have if not for this effect, which translates to a lower percentage. My guess is on a par with Crystal - somewhat less because it’s so close to SM, but the proportional effect will be slightly mitigated by SM having less time on the market.

In any case, you may disagree, and that’s fine, but what I’m saying isn’t “dumb.” It’s a reasoned prediction, maybe not correct, but not crazy.

But then again, to refer to your unintentionally very relevant comparison, I actually am a lawyer, so maybe I’m just used to explaining to people why they’re wrong, rather than just insulting them. It’s a lot more difficult.

My numbers might be a little off, but if I remember correctly:
Crystal - 6.8
Emerald - 7
Platinum - 7.5
BW2 - 8-something

Third versions/sequels have been consistently selling more and more copies since Crystal. Maybe thats why they decided to bring them back.
