It's odd. They seem to go through growth stages that are sessile and can't fight, while all Pokemon we know are good to go right after hatching.

I don't know, gameplay and story segregation is clearly in effect for some, like Kangaskhan, which starts out as a baby and grows into its adult form like a regular animal.

Nidorina is a burrowing and defending morph
Nidoran are meant to spread out and reproduce, and after that's done they can evolve to better project their young. One mama rina can dig a lot of burrows and defend them

That's how I've always seen it, anyways
Nidoqueen is not naturally occurring so it's irrelevant here
