I feel like the new things we're already confirmed to get would take up more than just 400MB, so they probably streamlined the game a little to accommodate the new stuff.
Maybe they fixed that absurdly stupid thing about each area having its own models.

I would like to remind everyone that most of the data in SM is taken up by Pokemon models/textures (1.22 GB) and music (around 400 MB). New features don't take up that much space. An increase of 400 MB is expected. Though, at 3.6 GB, it'll be the largest 3DS game by size.

Absolutely there is something under that cloud.

10 UB worlds, Wormhole, Megalopolis, Pikachu Valley, surfing areas, are all large scale areas. Combine that with all the new Z-Move animations and all that byitself is way more than 400MB. Only explanation is compression.

Look at BuzzwoleLand for fucks sake... That has to be taking up a lot of memory... Ultra Megalopolis looks like it will hog more MB than Hau'oli City.

Yeah but its hard to expect shitton of content additions from extra 400MB when SM was barebones, empty and unfinshied as fuck with 3.2 GB. Some of those 400MB IS going to new music and new pokemon models

Why do people act as though Megalopolis isn't just another Ultra Space hallway when it so obviously is? Megalopolis is nothing but a straight road and that single tower. Nothing else. It's not going to be an actual city with actual things to do. It's gonna be SM's Ultra Space all over again.

Ultra Megalopolis is just a bunch of spiky squares and a tower, how would that take up more than Hau'oli, a place with actual buildings you can enter and things you can actually do?

I mean people who try to say that the game has no new content using the file size as argument are the ones who less know about the subject.

Okay, first of all, storage space is not relative to the amount of content. You can grow a ton of MB with just a few new areas, or you can add a ton of Pokémon in just a few MB. Fact is - we have no idea how much space each of these things takes, so it's useless to even start arguing about it. Usually, the biggest memory hogs are graphical resources: Models, textures. All I can say is that a Battle Frontier wouldn't take more space than one of the Ultra Spaces, and that Mantine Surf probably doesn't take more than a few MB (it's the same repeated texture all over and a single model), while the photo club might have taken 10MB depending on how many props and effects they added.

Im trying to be realsitic: we're getting the game in a month, there will be like 2 or if we're lucky 3 trailers. GF tends to reveal everything in the recent years. There still might be some extra feature or two to reveal but there wont be a lot of them and i seriously doubt that there will be a big battle facility or new island(s) in those reveals

Usually GF gives the biggest news month before the release date. The Ultra Wormhole adventure was that big news this month.

Text, data (as in Pokemon stats, moves, etc), game script, programming for the plot take up hardly any room. It's all just text and numbers.
Media like Pokemon models, music, video*, textures, any other image files take up A LOT of room.

Just compare a Word or Excel doc on your PC with a photo or video you took.

*note the cut scenes in the games are "in-engine" and not separate video, so they count in the text section.

Sorry I misread, thought you were talking about Battle Frontier.

Anyway they did have some old characters in SM, and the human models do take up less room than Pokemon. Not sure of size but Pokemon are ~2MB per model so they could easily get 60 characters in <80MB.

That site also has some interesting insight into file size: each Pokemon is somewhere in the realms of 1.5-2mb on average, so for 802 Pokemon plus forms that's over a third of the game on models alone. So that's going to be taking around the same amount of space in SM and USUM aside from the 7(?) currently revealed new pokes/forms (around 10-15mb altogether I guess)

That's a fifth of the remainder of SM content that's been added on. I think this seems like more than enough for a small 5th post game island/frontier/PWT since we've established that once you have the textures, new areas don't take up much room.
