They're all based on some concept/creature grounded within the real world, that becomes clear when you stop to look at them. The only one that comes close to the criticism of being a generic or uninspired monster type is Guzzlord

Take Xurkitree for example. If it were a normal pokemon, it would probably have been some kind of plant creature that resembles a lamp of some kind, but since it's supposed to be alien within the world of pokemon, it's a literal wire creature that's vaguely treelike
