If you could completely remove one battle mechanic, e. g. items, abilities, hazards, weather, terrain, mega evolution, Z-moves, etc. what would you remove?

I would remove critical hits, because they are much too random. Frost Breath and Storm Throw should just be 90 BP moves, which ignore the target's stat boosts. Moves like Slash should be changed to bypass Protect and similar moves.

I would remove evasion, since it's generally frowned upon and even banned in most competitive formats.

They are literally noting but a barrier to new competitive players.
I know literally dozens of people who play on Showdown but are unwilling to play on cartridge specifically because breeding is a pain to get into.

I think they were originally implemented to help make each Pokémon unique, but the people who would notice their Charizard's attack is two higher than their friends' are the sort of people who play competitively anyway
