What's more important to you?

Exclusive plot-relevant Pokemon (not necessarily using them) or exclusive plot-relevant characters?

I'm having a hard time choosing a version this time around. I would prefer to see Sun's Dusk Mane Necrozma and UB Burst integrated into the story, but Moon's Ultra Recon Squad is more interesting, bulge memes aside.

Pokemon. US has much better exclusives (A-Ninetales, UBs, Manectric, Passiman, Solgaleo, and Turtonator), and I prefer their squad.

I also go for characters because I can start Ultra Moon with Burst as my starter if I want to, but Phyco and Soliera won't be the active team in Ultra Sun.

If you mean seeing pokemon integrated into cutscenes, you can easily look that up on Youtube as they're usually not more than a few minutes long.

That I get, but I'm thinking purely from a storytelling standpoint, since I ultimately won't be using UBs or Legendaries in my in-game team. I'm basically choosing whether I'd rather see better Pokemon or better characters within the game's plot/dialogue/cutscenes.

That's not a bad idea, but I also think that would also be a testament to my wrong choice.

I guess it's just something I'll have to put up with.

It'll just be "This UB is fucking shit up!" anyway. And I personally don't think the Necrozma will act significantly differently in the version, just a model swap and one flying. I think the characters will have a bigger impact.

Fair enough, it's a pretty stupid looking pokemon. The teams in Sun are way better anyway though in my opinion.
I'd say let the characters decide, except if you have really strong opinions of the exclusive pokemon, in which case you'd need to judge if those opinions on those pokemon outweigh the characters. In my case it's almost always the characters first.
