Because the vast majority of ROM hacks miss what Pokemon as all about in the first place and needlessly try to implement a story that is either dark, gritty, and edgy or something that is sad, depression, and emotional.

I don't understand when people get mad that People make romhacks that are edgy/sad. Have you considered that they're not trying to perfectly replicate the feel of a Pokemon story and they WANT to make something that feels different in tone but has the same gameplay and monsters?
If you don't enjoy the tone of a fangame, just accept that it isn't for you and move on.

Prism is great but it does have a really weirdly depressing vibe, from the world building to the characters. There's just enough added realism to make it cynical. It's not a bad thing, it's part of what made coliseum feel as different as it did.

The whole game has that depressing Gen II Kanto vibe. I think it's a mix of the writing being a little more realistic in that most people aren't chipper and supportive like the real games, and the graphic/sound capabilities.

I just started Prism a few days ago, and one thing I liked about it straight off the bat is that the story is about you. You get separated from your mom due to a rockslide and you go out of your way to find her again. It feels more personal and far more interesting than having to put up with Lillie's mommy issues in SM.
