I thought that too, but when you think about it, maybe it would be asymmetrical. It's supposed to be Yin and Yang, so maybe one side would hava Zekrom's features and the other Reshiram's. Maybe that's why Black and White Kyurem have half their limbs made out of ice. The original dragon didn't have two Zekrom wings or Reshiram arms, so each Kyurem form had to make the other ones out of ice to balance it out.

It still wouldn't be designed as a fusion though, even if you can still see what features represent Reshiram and what features represent Zekrom. Black/White Kyurem were specifically designed to look like Frankenstein monsters because they are forced and unnatural, the Original Dragon would not look anything like that at all, even if asymmetrical.

what type would it be then? There's no generic "energy' type, and dragon is on all three so it couldn't have been elec/fire.

The original dragon isn't Yin and Yang, it's Taiji, the supreme whole. Yin and Yang come from Taiji, but it's a complete thing. Perfect and ultimate in every way. Being asymmetrical would make it look like it's flawed, which would go against the concept entirely.

I think it's look like a balanced mix of all three, but with a mostly golden colour scheme to emphasise the "perfect" nature of it. Like, the yellow part on Kyurem's head, I feel, is supposed to be a remnant of what it used to be.

Interesting thought. I just assumed the yellow parts on Kyurem were due to Reshiram's red and Zekrom's yellow. I always pictured the original dragon being a dark gray and that the light gray on Kyurem is because it's simply an energyless shell of what it once was.

It's not an Ice-type because it's a 'zombie'. It originally had power over all three types, but Reshiram and Zekrom are aspects of Kyurem that were split from it. If the original dragon wasn't an Ice-type, B/W-Kyurem shouldn't have to be, either.

Consider this: If it could control energy, wouldn't it also be able to take away energy, resulting in cold?

Kyurem is described as being an empty shell of itself. No longer full of energy, it's the opposite -- a complete lack thereof, hence the Ice typing. Or at least that's how I've always viewed it.

From a thematic standpoint, I guess you're not actually wrong, but when purely speaking of what powers the original dragon had, I don't think it gained the type out of nowhere from splitting.
