how long do pokemons live?
like pikachu, it's an electric mouse so it shouldn't live more than 2 years, do you think ash will replace it with another pikachu?

On average, at least about as long as the typical human lifespan. The eeveelutions from the eevee sidequest in SM belonged to those old trainers since they were kids (one of them even died) yet they were all fighting fit.

Prolly 20-40 years (with certain exceptions). Old trainers should have insanely strong/high level Pokémon (as far as serious battlers go), but they almost never eclipse their younger counterparts. Any elderly trainer with super strong Pokémon (Glacia, Agatha come to mind) has prolly rotated 2-3 of those Pokémon on their team as the previous ones pass away.

And not to mention that plenty of trainers would lose a lot of heart if a Pokémon (or multiple) died. Which explains why not most people in universe aren't at least minor trainers.
