The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these characters, to realise that they're not just NPCs- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Sun and Moon truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Lillie's existential catchphrase "Get in the bag, Nebby!" which itself is a cryptic reference to the surrealist interpretation of existentialist philosophy in the literary works of André Breton. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Shigeru Ohmori's genius wit unfolds itself on their 3DS screens.
