>>33827117I can appreciate that aspect of Hoenn's designs. However, there's a lot of issues with ORAS' version of Hoenn. As you mentioned, the teleporting wasn't needed. Another issue was changing areas like Granite Cave for no reason whatsoever. Another was New Mauville. A third was the safari zone. Not only that, but they didn't really bother making the ocean routes interesting, neither when it comes to visuals or pokémon. When you traverse a long route with little variety, it gets dull pretty fast. This was arguably an inherited problem from RSE, but it still makes traversing the routes pretty dull. I never found diving that interesting, so there's that.
Another thing is how the visuals make the region uglier than it should be. For one, the squareness was a stupid design decision. If you're going to update everything else, might as well reimagine Hoenn in actual 3D, and not just pseudo-blocky format. Take one look at the cave textures to notice another issue, it's not anything remotely organic, it's just ugly. Then you got shit like a tropical rainforest that looks nothing like a tropical rainforest. I could go on. At least the change to Sea Mauville was interesting.
There is actually one thing that ORAS should get credit for, mostly because GF was stupid enough to forget to implement in older games, and that is that pokémon in the overworld actually count as seen in the pokédex. Adding them to the routes makes them a bit more charming, and they should get credit where credit is due.
