Bulbapedia still believes it needs evidence for Type: Null to be Legendary, despite Silvally being its evolution. This is the same place that, mind you, they automatically assume that Jimmy's Pikachu is voiced by Ikue Ohtani. (Jackson/Vincent's Meganium also has a different VA in Japan, despite Bulbapedia listing it as the same as English.)

Sorry, Jimmy's Pikachu is credited under a different actress in the Japanese version, not Ikue Ohtani. But Bulbapedia still assumed that it was the same person in English.

I watched both the English and Japanese versions of that episode, and Pikachu sounded completely different in English.

I wish they had designations for Pokemon that are special but not legendary. Or at least make Silvally seem more of a legend in later games, to play up the "legend in the making" angle you can gleam from SM.

Sub-legendary - Trios, Silvally

Mythical - Event mostly - Mew, Celebi etc
whereas we just lump everything as a legendary, even though it's obvious Silvally isn't the same as Fug for example.

I know about sub-legends, that designations seems to exist mostly just to let them make exceptions for facility banlists. Nobody calls them the sub-legendary birds. I'd like more officially designated rarity levels in general. I like how the Pokedex lately has special effects for rarer Pokemon, like higher rarity trading cards, I'd like to see them do more with it and expanding it beyond legendary Pokemon.

You're mixing it up a bit.

Japan has always used the terms Legendaries and Mythicals, Around Gen 5, the west started using the term Mythicals.

Sub-legendary hasn't actually been used yet, it's just a recent term from the games' coding.

Silvally and Type: Null are essentially the same pokemon. The latter is just the former with a mask on. It's basically a form change that is permanent so it was made into an "evolution"

Sub-legendary (jun-densetsu) has actually been a fan term for non-banned legendaries for at least a decade. SM's coding seems to have made it somewhat official.

Also, if "sub-legendary" sounds weird, the "sub" part could also be translated as something like "minor" or "lesser".

But it was already confirmed months ago. It's in the game's code. Bulbapedia are just stupid sometimes, like when they didn't post Diancie/Hoopa/Volcanion details after they had been confirmed to be in the game code.
