How exactly is USUM worthy of its existence? The only compliment you can give them is being what SM should have been from the start (which just further highlights how lazy and greedy The Pokemon Company are).

Cutscenes are a pretty big issue when you can't skip them. They're fine for the first playthrough but the games are almost impossible to replay because of them. One of the best things about Pokemon is the huge variety you have for building a team of Pokemon, which in turn makes replaying the game multiple times enjoyable. But the cutscenes ruin that aspect. And unless you want to play competitive on your cartridge (rather than playing Showdown or a completely different multiplayer game that is actually balanced around competitive play), there's going to be very little reason to touch any of the gen 7 games after you've played through them once.

because we haven't had a good one since BW2? All the people crying for quality postgame aren't talking about watching lillie flap her lips for a few more hours

You mean since Platinum/HGSS? The PWT was just a glorified Battle Dome, both the Hoenn and Sinnoh BFs actually had variety.

I don't even care because I'm one of approximately twelve people on planet Earth who didn't mind SM focusing more on its narrative and the slower pace it had. It's the first time I was remotely invested in the game's story since Gen 2 when any text in a box seemed interesting. The prospect of USUM having a deeper, longer story only makes me happier.

Once those initial 20 hours run out, gameplay will be what makes the game worth playing for another 300 hours or what makes you stuff it in the box and never touch it again

I find it really hard to get hyped about "LOOK GUIS MORE STORY!!!1" because that only means more cutscenes and doesn't really help with the game's longevity
