Difference is that Europe etc. give their review copies as digital download rather than physical which makes it a lot harder to dump.

8e35008c41ba8f96fa07b74cf255f70e. That's the encrypted title key for the review copy of this game, which was dumped months before it was supposed to be released. With that key, you could download the game straight from the eShop servers and play it. I'd say that's a lot easier than having to constantly re-upload a .cia file when it gets taken down.

It leaked almost an entire MONTH early, though. People getting a game a day or two early isn't really anything to panic about, especially you can't really stop that kind of thing, but several weeks ahead of time? That's screwy.

So did Sun and Moon, and XY leaked a little over two weeks early from various sources. This is in no way the first time something like this has happened

That's not really the same thing, the games were officially out in Japan. While they probably lost a few sales from people doing this, it was mostly their fault for not doing global releases sooner.

said, even if you wanted to dump a .cia that's still easily possible with GodMode9 on a CFW 3DS. I've done it for Citra many times.
