What if the downside was that you couldn't deal supereffective damage? But your STAB attack was still susceptible to resistances and you could be hit super effectively.

How about increasing STAB of monotypes to 1.75x? There's no reason for monotypes to exist in current meta

If you were to make it part water/poison/electric/dragon/ghost/dark/steel/fairy it would be better and could actually have a useful STAB

Poison and dragon would definitely be worse. Fairy, Ghost, Dark would be better. Steel would be interesting since it removes its current niche and would make it ferro with recovery but no hazards.
