Each one had a different moveset
I distinctly remember each one having one of the good TM's from the olden days

Honestly I've only ever seen that stigma on /vp/.
None of the people I know irl that play pokemon care, nor have I noticed people sperg about it on other sites.
Maybe it's the contrarian/autistic nature of the board.

I use Regirock on all of my teams because Regirock just happens to be my favorite Pokemon. It's like having Sudowoodo on your team but worse.

Playing casually with friends we usually adopt a no legendaries rule just so that everyone's team has a bit more variety.

I never use legendaries during the main game because I would rather use a team I raised myself to beat the Elite Four, rather than substitute in a legendary at the last minute. I haven't used a legendary on my in-game team since the first time I played Silver as a kid. My Red team however was legendaries out the arse, with my starter, the birds and eventually Mew and Mewtwo.
