I heard that the reason USUM's pre-release period is so scarce regarding news is because each game director has their own approach regarding these things. Masuda, Ohmori, etc. all want to reveal things at a different pace.

Does /vp/ prefer Ohmori's "reveal fucking everything about the game months before release" or Iwao's "reveal fucking nothing of importance until a few weeks before release"?

Good question.
I wish they'd find a good balance in between those two, but I doubt they will. Like, have you SEEN how many trailers there were that showed off new information for Sun and Moon? There were 19 overall. That's a lot.

Compare that to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, during which we have only just recently gotten information. I think most of it is because Sun and Moon are brand new games, and thus have brand new Pokemon and features to show off, so they show off as much as they can.

Why can't we just have a pre-game season that has a MODERATE amount of new info-showing?

The latter easily.
Some info to sell me on the game is fine but I could've waited til I beat Moon to see Red and Blue at the battle tree or the other UBs that I wasn't going to see until after the game anyway. I like having surprises and S&M's marketing provided none.

I don't pay attention to who directs the games, just seems like pointless drama to me.

I'd much rather get the news late or get no news at all than have it all dumped in my lap way before release, though. They did a better job with SM, a lot of stuff would have gone unknown until release if the entire Pokedex didn't leak with the demo.
