People construed this as him saying "people are being too hard" when that isn't necessarily the case. Personally speaking, I play fighting games on the side and this particular issue is blowing up in that community too, where you pool together a collection of fans with different preferences and you create an environment where any supportive decision (or on the flipside, negative take) is treated like an "enemy," which reverts back to the idea of labeling people like shills because of their positivity for certain games.
Criticism is important to note, but there comes a point where people are just being pest and taking things too seriously when they observe excitement (and vice versa for critical discussion)
