Its not happening.All footage so far shows this to be the case,and I say that as someone who really wanted it back. This all but puts the nail in the coffin. When you send out the Pokemon walking with you at the head of your party in HGSS, you send it out with a point/hand gesture instead of throwing it's Pokeball. Almost identical to the animation Hau does in >>33864225

If anything this means that somee cutscenes now lead straight into battle which isnt anything crazy. Every 3rd version had some upgrade in battles. Crystal and Emerald had animated sprites, BW2 had animated trainer sprites

Immersion features are good, but following Pokemon wouldn't fix how shallow and tourist tour-ish Alola is as a region instead of a world you can adventure in.
They need to fix region design and add a lot of space to explore, including optional areas, THEN think about following Pokemon and other immersion stuff.

What good is Pokemon following you if you don't even have any space to run around in?

Only morons believed we would get following Pokemon in USUM. SM was already hitting the limits of what Game Freak could do with the 3DS. Do you really think adding 800+ walking Pokemon animations on top of everything else in the game was feasible? 3DS can't handle it. At most we are just getting a few of these animations in limited environments.

You should know that following Pokemon would make the 3DS explode at this point.

It's clear they either wanted to implement it and weren't happy with the result or are planning to implement it in the future because all of the assets for every single Pokemon walking and running are on the cartridge. Some of these are used elsewhere but there's little reason for every Pokemon to have them unless they were preparing for a situation where potentially any Pokemon could be in a position to be shown walking/running.
