Reminder that Gen 4 and 5 were the peak of Pokémon's overworld artstyle. 2D sprites paired with low-poly 3D surroundings can't be beat.

They could do much better, but I agree. I actually prefer GSC's simple, rustic style to HGSS however and I liked Mountain Kalos for the most part, too. Alola could look great but the camera was unfortunate. Maybe USUM will do better, it seems like an improvement in that respect already.
