From what the NPCs say, Lusamine acted more or less exactly like this before Lillie ran away. She was apparently very affectionate toward her children, but didn't spend much time with them. The "abuse" was mostly how willing she was to disown them at the first sign of rebellion.

The anime initially introduced Cyrus as a rich investor who revolutionized energy production or something. The reveal that he was evil was treated like a plot twist, even though "good" Cyrus had a weird habit of going on tangents about remaking the universe.

Anime Lusamine (what we have seen so far) looks like she would tease Lillie with wearing cute clothes. The impression I got from game Lusamine is that she forced her kids to wear the clothes she wanted, treating them mopre like dolls than children.
