You're entitled to your opinion, but BW1 was the only mainline game to prominently feature its gym leaders as characters instead of merely checkpoints, bosses, or deus ex machinas. All of the gym leaders have actual story presence and backstory, as well as are included in the main story of the game - even after you've long beaten them.
Except Chili Cilan and Cress, but they're the Shadow Triad :^)
But for real, I understand that some gym leaders have some story in the other games, but never to the degree gen V had. Almost every other gym leader NEVER reappears in any of the games, bar postgame. The gen V leaders were actually fleshed out.
I don't mind you even disliking the gym leaders, but can you really say that they're more forgettable when they're the only ones any of the games really cared about, bar maybe Jasmine or Giovanni or something?
