In the original, Mewtwo was confused about it's existence and went about it's revenge on humanity for trying to use it by confronting trainers with it's own Pokemon and beating them while also proving that Clones have a place in the world.
In the English version Mewtwo was portrayed in a much more antagonistic light. Wanting to destroy the world and only have clones exist. It also believed itself and it's clones to be superior to the originals.
The hurricane it created in the original served as a means to test trainers who intended to get to New Island, but in the English version it was supposed to be it's means of destroying civilization.
