The orange islands arc is more than valid because it shows the anime as a story first and foremost, original and free from having to promote a certain game. The fact that Ash won shows that that is the true resolution to his stories, and that his defeats are forced by the higuer ups for the sake of promoting the next games.

The Orange Archipelago was nothing but an anime-only filler "region". Even the regions featured in the Ranger spin-off have more relevance in the mainline in-game canon than those non-existant pieces of shit isles.

Nobody wants to read a story about a guy who constantly doesn't even get the bronze medal.
