Am I the only one who always found the battle frontier to be boring as shit? Who wants to grind NPCs all day with no story element? I would much rather play against real people.

Even back in the day me and my friends never fucked with it on Emerald. We just battled each other on cart. Like I'm all for a real "postgame" but in what way is a fucking storyless grindfest with no real reward a good postgame?

Never played PWT beyond the compulsory section after Clay. Should really do another proper run of W2 so that I can give it a proper go (my original save was corrupted so all I have are a bunch of Nuzlockes & a monobug run)

The only game that I've thought had a really compelling postgame was Explorers of Time. The amount of content they put into that was ridiulous - been playing it on-&-off for a couple of years now & have only just finished the Darkrai plot, & I'm pretty sure there are more dungeons to follow even if it doesn't tie up the last remaining loose ends

As someone who doesn't care for battle facilities in the slightest and would prefer to play with friends or online, I still appreciate and enjoy the variety some of them offer. The rental battle format in Battle Factory is a nice change of pace, PWT was fun for monotype challenge purposes and mini dungeon-like ones such as the Black Tower/White Tree Hollow are near identical to how the main-game is. I most likely won't touch any of them, but there's no reason that they should not be present and offer a player the option to do so.

I thought FRLG had a good postgame right up until I replayed them this year & was done with the Sevii Isles + Mewtwo in a single evening. Kid me was stuck on those puzzles like Lost Cave for weeks

Post game should be a new story, like Delta Episode from ORAS or the Looker side quests from XY. Fun story stuff with a new goal utilizing what you learned over the course of the game, and providing a better challenge. Having a tower that requires you to be a competitive player is fine and all (even if the enemy AI is legit bullshit 99% of the time), but there should be a side story that's enjoyable.

It's harder because the battles are hard and you have to make due with whatever random items you find and use them strategically. Coupled with the darkness the maze is harder than whatever dumb rock puzzles in story dungeons.

As to why people like the Battle Frontier, you pretty much just have to know what it is. A range of different gauntlets against semi-competent, non-standard teams that can be played on your own at anytime with their own special rulesets and circumstances you can't experience elsewhere. At least the Emerald one.
