Gen 5 isn't as bad as some people think, but can we all agree it's overall the worst gen design wise?

While I agree Gen 5 had by far the worst Pokemon designs as a whole, there's still a handful of really good ones like Eelektross and Chandelure. Just because quantity was prioritized over quality doesn't mean there was any quality at all.

But yeah the vast majority were trash

I disagree. I like about 95% of the mons from gen V and think it has the strongest showing overall. Scolipede, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Scolipede, Throh & Sawk, Volcarona, Seismitoad, Galvantula, Ferrothorn, Eelektross, Chandelure, Golurk, etc... just about anything in the dex makes sense and looks good bar a couple exceptions.

Imo the ranking is something like V > 1 > 7 > 3 > 2 > 4, something like that. I only truly dislike maybe 30 Pokémon designs, but I think gen V has the most of high quality overall. Gen 7 has the highest density of good designs tho imo, I only dislike Incineroar, Brionne, Oricorio, and Mimikyu out of all of them.

Gen V is the weakest Dex overall and yet simultaneously has some of the absolute best 'mons.

Volcarona, Hydreigon, Haxorus, Excadrill, Lilligant, Galvantula, Chandelure - all great 'mons. Yet the Dex is weighed down by absolute shitters like Watchog, Liepard, the Monkeys, Swoobat, Garbodor, Zoroark, Swanna, Vanilluxe, Klinklang, Stunfisk, the Genies, the Trio, etc.

There's far more garbage there than there are good designs, but the good designs are some of the best going around. It's a paradox of Gen.

I disagree. I think gen v is the worst game in the series and started the horrible linearity that the games have continued with.
And the dex is the worst by default because they're all unoriginal rehashes of gen 1 mons, not saying all gen 1 mons are great but they're better than anything gen 5 has simply because it actually has originality to it.

Most people seem to prefer the sequels; the sequels are propped up and made better by the first games of the gen, including adding additional content via memory link.

Stoutland is an awesome pokemon.

If you want bad designs, why not call out the Hitmon ripoffs, Sawk and Throh? Or the Petilil line that adds nothing to the pokemon lineup. Or that hideous Klink line. Or the copypaste monkey trio.

There's not really that big of a problem with gen V. It's just the fact that it introduced SO many Pokemon that it gives off the illusion of being problematic. The quality may not have been proportional to the quantity.
