So, during Gen VI Game Freak "beta tested" a bunch of features that they would later implement in SM. Some notable ones include:

This raises the obvious questions: what features have they beta tested in SM? If this trend continues, the current generation should have some hints about upcoming features that we are going to get in the Gen VIII games. What could they be? This thread is for any and all speculations about future game mechanics. Remember that the next generation will be on Switch so GF can possibly include much bigger things than before.
