Pokemon Training Pokemon; Your pokemon can capture a Pokemon and help train them, causing them to work better in doubles than if you just used two perfect 6IV fully EV trained pokemon. To do this, you have a new option in battle that lets your Pokemon fight on its own, but only if your friendship level is maxed. Upon weakening a wild pokemon enough, you can throw a ball to your pokemon for it to attempt capture. By doing so, the captured Pokemon will be in tune with you as well as the Pokemon that caught it. Pokemon caught like this have higher stats when paired with the Pokemon that captured them, causing them to be stronger than pokemon trained simply by a trainer. They gain much more experience in double battles, and they often help weaken enemy attacks. "Pikachu jumped in the way of the attack, taking some of the damage!" If both pokemon are eligible for Mega Evolution, evolving one will evolve the other as well. Megas holding items, oh the humanity
Anime tie-in: Pikachu catches a wild (gen 8 mon) for Ash, who is indisposed due to plot reasons, and warms up to both Ash and Pikachu. It gets a unique anime evolution, a special Double Battle move that only works with a Pikachu, and so on.
