>>33959658Just try to remember have fun with them. You don't have to necessarily follow a pattern. But like that one anon said, it helps to write down concepts and types before hand so don't rush in all willie nilly.
Another thing I will advise you on, (that's if you want to a "good" Fakedex) is to not be satisfied with whatever you could come up with first. Always try to find new things to add on to your mons, or redesign them. TAKE YOUR TIME.
Don't be afraid to scrap some designs or concepts. If you personally feel a concept or a design just doesn't work scrap it or can't get it down right, and move on. Something else will come along that's better. Don't push yourself to bring it out.
At least try to be clever with your designs. By that I mean, try your best to not base your designs of one thing all the time, combine aspects of multiple things that could be related to make something. I say this so you too can avoid making "literally my mom's _____."
This may sound like a clear "Don't" in creating Fakemon (or anything for that matter) but don't be afraid to "reuse" already used concepts. For example if a Fakemon artist has already made an "apple work" Fakemon, don't be afraid to use it too. True you might get some accusations of "stealing" but just make it your own. Just because someone else has done a similar idea doesn't mean it's already been done. There's almost infinite room for interpretation for a single concept and idea.
If you truly want it to look convincing, mimic the GF style as much as possible. Don't have really much advice besides that.
Finally, DO RESEARCH. This may sound like the most irrelevant thing here, but actually putting in research helps a lot. You might have an idea for one concept, but you do research and learn more about it and you might change the idea for the better.
This is what to come up my Fakedex if you're interested:
