For reference, here's all 4 protagonists from XY and SM, the highest quality characters in the games. The outfits aren't identical, but are similar enough to be easy to compare. You could see some more details on the XY models that the SM ones are missing, like Serena's hair vs Selene's or the shading on Serena and Calem's tight shirts that are missing on Selene's.
There is one thing the SM models have that the XY models don't, and that's defined pinky fingers. The XY trainers only have four defined fingers, the ring finger and pinky finger are actually merged together, even though it's hard to see on a 3DS screen. This is also the case in ORAS, as Brendan and May have this same ring/pinky merge too.
