If they were alive and failed to stop them, it's possible they're all dead. But I like to imagine that the only worlds they could win in are worlds where the protagonists were never born at all, removing them from the equation entirely.

Gen 1 and 2 protags: Extorted to hell and back and practically made into Team Rocket's personal punching bags.

Gen 3 protags: either live in One Piece/Wind Waker world surviving the seas or in Desert Punk world scouring the scorches.

Gen 4 protags: remade into Cyrus' image as emotionless husks who work only to serve Cyrus.

Gen 5 protags: BW2 protags probably are just one of the new peasant class under King N and Ghetsis while BW1 protags are held captive by Ghetsis to pacify N and make him docile as he does all the actual ruling.

Gen 6 protags: They're fucking dead.

As I understand it, Giovanni is not from an alternate universe, meaning he never actually beat Red, this is just his big comeback.

This means that Red, Ethan and Lyra never lost.

Although keep in mind, every single protagonist exists in each others universe, so for example; In the Archie-won universe, every protagonist technically has to suffer the consequences of the expanded seas. This just means that, in relation to the "Legion of Doom", Red, Ethan and Lyra did not fail and contribute to the villain alliance.

The rest of the protagonists however, well...

Well this is multiverses we're talking about.

Theoretically it is completely canon that there are universes for each protagonist where they at some point lost to the villains and got raeped, which may or may not be the same universes where the USUM villains came from.

Sounds to me like Giovanni is the same one we've always known, it's just the other bosses being pulled from different universes.
