This game had to use scaled back models to fit on the 3DS cart. USUM have significantly more content and better overworld models than ORAS.

ORAS only needed to fully model a handful of characters for Small Battle Intros, they didn't have to do much and the game wasn't loading anything else during the intros so the models they used were really high quality.

SM models have to be in the overworld, and in battles where they're being loaded next to the Pokemon.

They'd look less shit if the texture resolution was existent and not blurred/jaggy lines. You don't make textures low res purposely then zoom in on them.

The highest polycount for a battle model is 5997, which is for Cynthia. For comparison, Primarina has the highest polycount out of any Pokemon, at around 16k.

You mean the RAM? Cartridge space isn't an issue when it comes to models. It's not like a triangle takes a fuckton of space to make it a problem on the cart. But it will when it comes to processing on the 3DS. More polys = more lag. And battles are bad enough in SM.

It's because SM has to render the models in-battle because of the feature where you can see the trainer behind the pokemon, whereas Gen 6 doesn't have that.
