Do they each come from a separate timeline of Ruby and Sapphire's story or two separate Emerald timelines. If it's the latter, did they also manage to suppress or capture the opposite box legendary as well as Rayquaza who helped keep the balance? Did Gamefreak simply want to establish that "20 years of villainy" by using the original designs to better signify RSE's age and place in the mainline series? Will Anabel remember them?
That's not to say the ORAS designs wouldn't have brought some discussion to the table either, like how they both were able to control the primal forms of Kyogre and Groudon. Did the meteor of the Delta episode strike the earth or did Archie/Maxie stop it somehow or did they get pulled out of their timeline before it happened?
